The best supplemental math program for special education

BlueStreak Math is module- rather than grade-based to meet students where they are, ensuring all students have equal opportunity to learn and progress.

How BlueStreak supports
learning for all students

We organized a BlueStreak Math Summer Learning Contest, and a student with autism won first prize. This was likely the first time this student received an academic award, making it a truly remarkable moment.

Proven, research-based methods

We’re bringing math fluency into the 21st century with learning strategies based on the latest research in education and brain science. By layering these methods to create a more comprehensive approach to fluency, BlueStreak develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills for special education students.

1
The “Blended Model” of fluency

Research shows that students cannot be fluent without conceptual understanding and flexible thinking. True fluency transcends efficiency and accuracy, or computational fluency. BlueStreak helps foster a deeper conceptual understanding of numerical relations and number sense by pairing automaticity practice with math strategies and visual representations.

2
Deliberate practice model

In a deliberate practice learning model, students cycle through a process of reach (challenging practice), results, reflection, and recovery to maximize growth and build confidence. BlueStreak’s adaptive engine delivers “just right” challenging practice to stimulate learning and provides real-time feedback directly to students. Corresponding Strategy Worktexts then prompt students to reflect and set goals with Metacognition activities.

3
Multi-modal sensory impress method

BlueStreak's Digital Learning Cards leverage the Brain-Compatible Multimodal Sensory Impress Method for highly engineered instruction modeled after reading fluency. This “See it, Hear it, Say it, Type it, Solve it” model corresponds to the ELL communication modes of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This approach differentiates, engages, and reinforces learning by stimulating a number of senses.

Streamlined classroom
management

Yet another reason BlueStreak Math is such an effective math program for special education? It streamlines classroom management with a dual-pronged approach that increases student engagement and lowers teacher lift.

High engagement

Colorful and age-appropriate space-themed learning games mirror the games students play outside of school to keep them engaged and learning longer. Single-player and multiplayer game modes encourage peer interaction while keeping individual academic levels private. Students can even play together outside of school to continue learning longer!

Low lift

The autonomous nature of the BlueStreak digital platform frees up teacher time while students learn. Meanwhile, the Intervention Grouping Tool and turnkey mini lessons eliminate the need for additional planning time and enable teachers to quickly and easily pull students for direct instruction. The platform's adaptive engine also allows students to continue learning without having teachers assign specific levels or modules.

Accessible, age-appropriate learning

BlueStreak prioritizes accessibility to ensure all students have the opportunity to learn and progress in mathematics. These features include…

Click-to-voice functionality

Students can click on all text in the digital platform to hear it read aloud in both English and Spanish. This ensures reading level is not a barrier to growth in mathematics.

Multimodal forms of scaffolding

The digital platform uses sensory, interactive, and graphic multimodalities to reinforce concepts and cater to different types of learners.

Digital manipulatives

The BlueStreak digital platform features colorful, interactive manipulatives to develop number sense.

Differentiated yet collaborative

When it comes to math, engagement is more than a nice-to-have. It minimizes anxiety and builds confidence to keep students learning longer. With BlueStreak’s competitive and cooperative learning games, all students can play in the same rounds with their peers in the classroom and across the world, regardless of skill level. Each has an equal opportunity to win, as BlueStreak rewards the number of equations mastered over skill level. Meanwhile, each student’s academic level and progress remain private.
